Connected Communication was my fourth year Spatial Design Research and Development project. For this paper we were required to choose our own field of research and investigate it both theoretically and through design experimentation. I chose to investigate the potentials of more connective forms of digital technology.
Although networks, such as the internet have served to unite space and people miles apart they do little to create truly meaningful, intimate experiences. I hoped to find ways of remedying this, not only connecting people in an intimate manner but uniting the body and mind in the interaction and uniting physical space with virtual space (immaterial space). The two experiments I have shown here ‘“Light” Communication’ and ‘The Virtually Connected Dinner’ were vital in helping me investigate these issues.
